Dragon Bowl is a fantasy-themed board game made for bowling. Players take the game to the bowling center, set it up on the back table, and bowl to drive the game mechanics. Players, heroes, travel across a perilous landscape battling creatures and overcoming challenges on their way to defeat the marauding dragon and save the Kingdom.
Dragon Bowl takes the focus off of the bowling score and emphasizes shot-making. With six different bowling skill levels, beginner to pro, any level can play at the same time and anyone can win. A beginning bowler can defeat a pro bowler in Dragon Bowl.
Players select a hero and the skill level (based on bowling average or typical score bowled) at which they will compete. Heroes travel across a kingdom overrun with fierce creatures. When a player encounters a creature, she notes the creature's strength (denoted on an encounter card ranging from 6,8,10, or 12). Based on that strength, she roles the x-sided die to determine how to defeat the creature.
Ex: A beginning bowler encounters a creature with strength 8. The beginning bowler roles an 8-sided die. The result is 5. To defeat the creature, the beginning bowler must knock over at least 5 pins with two balls in the bowling frame. An intermediate bowler would also roll the 8-sided die and have to knock over the resulting number of pins on their first ball to defeat the creature. Each subsequent skill level takes the difficulty to another level.
There are six creature encounters, three defined bowling challenges, and the final battle against the dragon, which consists of overcoming a unique Victory Combo.
In addition to the bowling component, each hero has a unique special skill they can use once or twice during the game. One hero can skip an encounter once during the game, while others can retake a shot or add +1 to their pin count or even steal another hero's die roll.
The game is designed to be played in the bowling center, but we do have people playing at home using some other bowling game like wii bowling or even a phone app.
